What are Webscenes?

Busy Preschooler's Guide to Learning uses the patent-pending Interactive
Book-Webscene (IBW) storytelling process. The IBW experience creates interactivity between the content of a print book and online animations. Following every activity in this book, you will find a weblink. Go online to visit the weblink.

There you will find online animations called webscenes.

The webscenes in this particular book are designed for child-adult participation.
Each webscene contains age-appropriate images, along with content that builds
upon the skills and understandings introduced in the activity.
Simple animations guide a child to focus for directed-learning.

Every webscene offers "guided questions" for an adult to pose to the child. These questions appear on-screen in a "drop down" format. The child can view the animation as the adult asks questions. Questions are presented in both
English and Spanish language text.

Webscene questions build upon the skills learned during performance of the activity. Questions enhance a child's listening, observation, and expression skills, as well as developing critical and analytical thinking skills.

Webscene animation styles and content change to support the storytelling needs of each IBW series. KA Reader, a series for beginner readers, contains books that are very engaging for preschool listeners. Storylines center around word pattern families and help to develop phoneme awareness in preparation for
phonics-based reading instruction.
